A crane is a type of hoisting machinery that performs cyclic and intermittent motion. One working cycle includes: the lifting device picks up the load from the original position, moves horizontally to the designated place and lowers the load, then moves in reverse to return the lifting device to its home position for the next cycle.

Below are practical guidelines for daily inspection and maintenance of cranes for manufacturing and hardware enterprises:

  1. Check whether the fuel of the engine (starter) is sufficient.

  2. Check whether the water in the water tank is adequate.

  3. Check whether the oil in the engine (starter) oil pan is sufficient.

  4. Check the oil level in the control cabinet.

  5. Inspect the running condition of the engine; check for oil leakage, water leakage, air leakage and abnormal knocking noise. The engine shall run smoothly at both low and high speeds.

  6. Inspect the condition of the steel wire rope, especially the fastening of connecting parts.

  7. Check the working condition of the storage battery, generator, motor, horn and lighting lamps.

  8. Verify that all instruments are in normal condition (inspect in accordance with the manufacturer’s operation manual).

  9. Fill lubricating oil to all parts following the specified lubrication cycle, lubrication points and oil type in the equipment lubrication chart.

  10. Check the operating status of all mechanisms, including clutches, brakes, slewing and travelling mechanisms, crane boom, pulleys, hook, etc. Conduct operation tests; troubles shall be eliminated immediately if found.

  11. Clean the exterior of the equipment.
